Now this is a bit weird, it’s a video of a black liquid called a ferrofluid that reacts to the presence of a magnetic field. I’d go into detail about how it all works but I didn’t really understand the wikipedia entry so to make it simple black fluid creates pretty shapes when near magnet.

If you’d like to try something like this yourself just Google for ferrofluid as it’s not too expensive and could be fun to play around with.

As it’s coming up to Christmas and apparently there is some kind of credit crunch going on I’ve decided that now would be a good time to add some links to cheap e-stores or places that will save you money in other ways. Animal Supermarket

First of all we have Animal Supermarket which is a very new business recently started up by a couple of friends of mine which may make you think that I’m recommending them just because of that but I like to save as much money as possible and their prices are pretty cheap. As an example you can get a 15Kg bag of James Wellbeloved dog food for £36.99 which is the cheapest I’ve seen.

Their full stock range isn’t up on the site yet but there’s still plenty to look at and more is added very frequently. (more…)

Favicons are those little icons that sometimes show up next to a website address in your address bar or next to a site name in your bookmarks but recently I’ve noticed that mine are a little broken. Most of them are fine but a few are showing favicons from the wrong site and whilst it’s not exactly a big deal I’ve decided to do something about it.

The instructions are below and luckily it is pretty simple to fix but as ever if you do decide to follow these instructions you do so at your own risk and agree not to hold me responsible if something goes wrong. I’m currently using version 3.0.4 of Firefox so if this doesn’t work and you’re not using 3.0.4 that could be why. (more…)

Heavy metal pirate rockers Alestorm have a new song up on their myspace page taken from their forthcoming EP Leviathan which is due to be released in January, however it looks like you can get a copy early from Napalm Records plus a free poster if you get in quick enough.

Grab a copy of their first album Captain Morgans Revenge whilst you’re there as well if you haven’t got it yet.

In an effort to get the blog and forum a little better integrated with each other I’ve decided to use the forum to host the blog comments. This has been achieved by using a plugin called Wp2BB by Alfredo de Hoces.

When a new post is made to the blog the plugin will automatically create a new topic in the forums for comments to be left in, there are links at the bottom of the post leading straight to the forum post in question but you will need to register for the forums if you’d like to leave a comment.

Following on from the Transformers video here’s somebody else who seems to have way too much free time on their hands along with 22,000 playing cards. Still it’s very interesting to watch it all take shape.
