Roundhay Park’s Tropical World has had a meerkat exhibition for over a year now I think but it was only recently that I managed to see them for myself and take a few photos. Unfortunatly they are housed behind some glass which could do with a good clean so most of the photos didn’t come out too well, infact it was a pretty bad day for photography all round as the lens fogged up in the butterfly house and with nothing free of grit to clean it with it didn’t clear up again until I got to the meerkats.

Next time I must remember to take a lens cloth.

Just a few coins on the floor taken for some practice. As I’ve neglected to mention it before my camera is a Canon 350D and the lens used was a Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1. I need to mess around with the aperture values a bit more to get a deeper depth of field but I’m pretty impressed with the lens so far.

I’ve been trying out my new macro lens on a handful of coins but when looking at the pictures on my PC I found this area of one of the photos to be more interesting than the main subject. A bit of cropping later and you have the red weed, or carpet fibres as they are more commonly known.

Unfortunately it’s not quite in focus but I still like the look of it.

A half asleep Bob taken with my new macro lens but this is obviously not a macro shot, I mean Bob’s small but not that small.
